Sanjay Gadhvi is back but this time without any Dhoom. His forthcoming film is the SanjayDutt-Imran Khan starrer Kidnap, which is produced by Shree Ashatvinayak Cinevision Ltd.

Interestingly, Gadhvi is one among a host of directors, who had worked with Aditya Chopra and left the Chopra camp on an acrimonious note. Moving away from the Chopra camp made things really difficult for Gadhvi who made a hasty exit after directing two hit Dhoom films. To add to it, the cynics from the Chopra camp insisted that both the Dhoom films had been ghost-directed by Aditya Chopra.

But Gadhvi continues to be known as the Dhoom director, a fact about which he is unhappy. He said, ?I never wanted to make Dhoom. Dhoom was a space-filler; a stopgap film. After directing Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, I wanted to make Kidnap, which was Shibani Bhatija?s (scriptwriter of Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, My Name Is Khan) first script for Yash Raj. However, Sanjay Dutt, whom we had finalised for the lead could not give any dates before 2004, so the film got stuck. Instead, Adi suggested making a quick film featuring actors who had the dates. That?s how Dhoom happened.?

Gadhvi was supposed to start Kidnap right after Dhoom, but that again was not destined to happen. ?The demand for a sequel to Dhoom was so high that I had no option. I wanted to make Kidnap. But Adi insisted I do Dhoom 2 and promised me that I could always do Kidnap later. Adi assured me that that Kidnap was earmarked for me and no one else would direct it. That?s how I went ahead with Dhoom 2,? added Gadhvi.

Speaking on the issue for the first time, Gadhvi said, ?After three films with Yash Raj, all directors either move out or become co-producers. Since production wasn?t a responsibility I was willing to shoulder, I opted out of the banner. I told Adi that I wanted to take a walk on the wild side. To me, Yash Raj was like my parents? home and I was the child who eventually left home.?

However, even the hype surrounding Dhoom and Dhoom 2 did not deter Gadhvi from his plans. Gadhvi was flooded with ?Dhoom type scripts?, which he refused. ?Dhoom wasn?t my forte. A lot of people tried to live up to the hype of Dhoom type of films but weren?t successful. I was keen to do Kidnap and since I wanted to move out of Yash Raj, Aditya kept his word and gave me the script and title of Kidnap as a farewell gift,? he said.

About Kidnap Gadhvi said, ?Kidnap is a half-baked effort at what I believe in and what is expected of me. But it is not a remake of the Mel Gibson starrer Ransom. Kidnap will establish me as a filmmaker of more gravity because a lot of people believe Dhoom had no story. At least Dhoom 2 got a little wazan because of the chemistry between Hrithik and Aishwarya.?

ive heard many other people that havent liked it...they thought it got too long in the middle...i kinda agree but was still a great movie

well story was kinda like that...started off good, took it slow in the middle, and then picked it up again. but like acting was really good, both Imran and Genelia.
