The industry has seen three huge losers over the last four months in Love Story 2050, Drona and Karzzzz.
Karzzzz released last week had a budget of 22 crore and its worldwide rights minus music rights were sold for 27 crore to Big Pictures. The print and publicity costs were around 6 crore taking the cost of Karzzzz to 33 crore. The returns for Big Pictures will be 9 crore from worldwide theatrical business and around 8 crore from other revenue sources giving it total revenue of 17 crore and losses of 16 crore to Big Pictures. The producers though have made good money as they made a profit by selling the film to Big Pictures and kept the music rights which have been big earners for them.
Love Story 2050 had a budget of 30 crore and its complete worldwide rights were sold to Adlabs for 32 crore. The cost to Adlabs were around 38 crore with print and publicity costs added. The returns were 7.50 crore from worldwide theatrical business and 10 crore from other revenue sources giving it total revenue of 17.50 crore and losses of 20.50 crore to Adlabs. The producers managed to to get small profits.
Drona had a budget of 45 crore and the producers released it themselves at a cost of 51 crore when release costs are added. The returns were 8 crore from worldwide theatrical business and 10 crore from other revenue sources giving it total revenue of 18 crore and losses of 33 crore.
Before this year only one film had lost around 15 crore and that was RGV Ki Aag but this year we have see three films in four months lose more than 15 crore including a 20 crore+ loser in Love Story 2050 and a 30 crore+ loser In Drona.
